Overview
This position involves routine repetitive work in operating a central multi-line telephone serving various sections of municipal RCMP Detachment. The essential responsibility is the efficient operation of the multi-line telephone requiring good knowledge of RCMP federal, provincial and municipal department functions.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Takes messages and provides general information to the public.
- Provides information in a prompt, accurate and courteous manner.
- Responding to telephone calls in a law enforcement setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of standard multi-line telephone operations as well as the functions of various RCMP sections, external clients and officials.
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system calmly and effectively at times under heavy load conditions.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
- Ability to answer a variety of internal and external inquiries orally and in writing through the telephone, email, VMAIL & CPIC and in person.
- Ability to understand, follow and relay messages and instructions.
- Ability to prepare and maintain non-complex records using Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word Perfect.
- Ability to train and instruct relief operators.
- Ability to use CPIC, LEIP, PROS, and PRIME software programs.
- Ability to use REDMS or a similar records management system.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work well under pressure and deal with stressful situations with professionalism.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
- Proficiency in another language would be considered an asset.
Qualifications and Experience:
Completion of grade 12 supplemented by courses relevant to the position plus sound related experience in a busy office environment. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
